"To view image clock on "Access Content Now" above." Each night after supper, winter or summer, Perreault recalls that his father would take the family for an evening walk. As they travelled the streets and back alleys, they discussed the day and found stories in the details of their neighbourhood. This practice of walking ignited Perreault’s life-long interest in the urban landscape. Though his early works focus closely on the reflections and textures of rocks and puddles, Perreault has become most known for painting back alleys. This subject matter deftly combines his interest in the formal properties of light and shadow with an interest in narrative. In Alley of Shadows, the snow-covered alley is broken up by the shadows of the buildings and trees that line it. Though the scene is empty of figures, tire tracks animate the space and suggest the activities and people in this place. Wilf Perreault (1947- ) Born in Albertville, SK, Perreault grew up in Saskatoon. As a young man he studied painting with the well-known realist, Ernest Lindner. During the latter half of the 20th century in Saskatchewan, academic training in painting focused on a New York-style abstraction. Attending the University of Saskatchewan, Perreault studied with Otto Rogers and Bill Epp, and graduated with a BFA in sculpture (1970) and a degree in Education, BEd (1971). Moving to Regina, Perreault balanced his work as an art instructor with his painting practice. While best known for his paintings, Perreault also created one of Regina’s most beloved sculptures, a living artwork known as “Reginald” the Grasshopper, located on Albert street at Leopold Crescent. Perreault is a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal in 2003. His artwork is collected in numerous private, corporate and public collections nationally
