Hildy Johnson was going to dump his career as a courtroom newspaper reporter -- until an inmate who has been sentenced to death escapes, and Johnson uses his honeymoon nest egg to pay off an inside source, triggering an avalanche of hilarious mayhem in one of the original screwball comedy, based on the stage satire of "Red" scares, yellow journalism and greenback corruption in 1920s Chicago.
