The eagle's daughter
The intrigues of the 10th Century empress, Theophano, who ruled the Holy Roman Empire for a decade. The tale is narrated by her aunt, Princess Aspasia, herself having an intriguing romance with the court physician, a Moor. Through Aspasia's eyes is seen the contrast between the surviving Byzantine Empire and the re-emerging Western Empire.
