Lady Pamela Bentham is old, difficult and disliked by most of her family, who plot to evict her from her lovely Somerset home. Maeve Delaney agrees to be her companion only because she is homelss and broke. Maeve and Lady Pamela are openly at war until Maeve encourages Lady Pamela to realise her dream of having a winner at the Cheltenham Festival with her one remaining racehorse.
