The boy
In 1959 Ray and Daisy Cook and their five children were brutally slain in their central Alberta home. Ray Cook's son, Robert Cook, from his first marriage, was convicted of the crime, and became the last man hung in Alberta. Forty-six years later a character Betty Jane Hegerat's is writing about in her novel becomes entangled in the childhood memory of hearing about that gruesome mass murder.
