A young woman forced to work hard by her wicked stepmother meets a fairy godmother and has a chance to meet the prince of her dreams. A mermaid's wish to discover life on land is granted, but she must pay a high price. Princesses sneak out every night to go dancing, and their father hires several men to figure out where they are going. A woman proves she is a princess by by her reaction to a pea placed under a stack of mattresses.
